Temperature comes down in many parts of State

IANS

HYDERABAD: After three weeks of relentless heat, there is some respite finally for the people of Andhra Pradesh. The temperature has come down by four to six degrees Celsius in many parts of south coastal Andhra Pradesh and the Telangana region where 1,317 people have died in the heat wave.

But no fatality has been reported from any part of the state since Saturday evening. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre said the heat wave was likely to abate as northwesterly winds blowing through the state were overwhelmed by the monsoon that hit Kerala on Sunday.

It has not ruled out pre-monsoon showers in some parts of the state in the next two to three days. The monsoon is likely to hit the state in a week. Some places in Chittoor district, including the temple town of Tirupati, received two centimetres of rainfall Sunday providing people much needed relief. Cold breeze is sweeping through several areas, including the state capital, where the temperature has come down to 40 degrees Celsius from 44 degrees a week ago.

The temperature in Vijayawada has also come down by three degrees -- the city recorded a temperature of 45 degrees Celsius Sunday and was the hottest place in the state.
